Each CSSL carries a single or a few defined chromosome segments from a donor line in the genetic background of another line. These lines constitute useful resources for genetic studies, including detection and fine mapping of QTLs for the target traits. In particular, CSSLs can be used for the detection of QTLs with small additive effects that are masked by QTLs with large effects in filial generation 2 (F2) and recombinant inbred line populations.
