A DNA construct, based on a fertility plasmid, used for transforming and cloning in bacteria. BACs are typically 150 to 350 kbp long, but can be more than 700 kbp. They are often used to sequence the genome of an organism by amplifying its DNA as inserts, which are sequenced before being rearranged in silico, to give the genome sequence of the organism.
