- Duplication mode IV. Single gene transposition-duplicationsearch for term
A single nontransposon gene relocates to a new position, and segregants contain duplicates. All evidence of ancestral (syntenic) position is lost. The extent of this sort of duplication within and among genomes is under intense investigation at this time; such duplicates may be very common in the Brassicales branch of the Arabidopsis lineage. This mode is synonymous with dispersed duplication in Drosophila, ectopic duplication of NB-LRR genes in plants, and ectopic translocation of some legume genes. (Freeling 2009)
