- Duplication mode II. Tetraploidysearch for term
In some taxa, and especially in higher plants, genomes double all chromosomes, which initiates the process of fractionation among the new homeologs. Recent tetraploids have double the ancestral chromosome number. This mode is synonymous with whole-genome duplication. More complicated polyploidies have occurred, for example fractionated paleohexaploidy. (Freeling 2009)
